Money and self worth is one relationship that is often not spoken about or is hidden away because people don't want to share what is really going on. As humans we often base our value on how much money we earn, if we got our latest pay rise and what we are charging in our businesses. When things don't go to plan this can make us feel unworthy, knock our self-esteem and leave us with negative self-talk. When we are in the thought pattern I'm lacking this in my life, the more we focus on this lack mentality the more of the same we receive. So instead we want to be exploring the relationship between money and self worth in a positive way.
Feelings of not having enough money have a massive effect on your self worth, self esteem and how confident you feel in your life. I have been through this myself and I work on my money relationship every single day so I can continually move forward on my journey. I have shared my 5 action steps below.
5 Action Steps to build a better relationship with your money and self worth
1) Releasing your old story to focus on the new.
To start releasing your old story we need to pay a visit to the past to have a look at what is holding you back in our current life. You can go back 5 years or all the way back to your childhood just start with what feels right for you. So let me explain about what beliefs are? They are thoughts you have learnt consciously and unconsciously that are holding you back in your current life. If you don't start working on them they can leave you feeling stuck and sabotaging your success. So we are going to do a quick exercise to look at these belief's around your money and self esteem. So grab your computer or a notebook and ask yourself a few questions.
I should be? I have to? I can? I am? Next ask yourself the two below questions.
What are your current beliefs around money?
What do they need to be instead?
The idea of this exercise is to bring awareness to what you are feeling about your money story.
2) Embracing acceptance where you are on your journey
Where you are right now on your journey is going to be different to where everyone else is on theirs. So it's taking the time to meet yourself exactly where you are in this moment. So stop that negative mind saying from saying I don't feel worthy, I'm not ready or how am I going to change? Don't accept this belief so instead lets say to ourselves right now we are good enough to be able to achieve anything and change our money story. This doesn't just apply to your money but all areas in your life. When you are living in your own power you give yourself permission to show up today to be your unique self. This feeling is a deeper knowing that actually I'm OK with who I am and this feeling of deep knowing is the most amazing feeling ever.
3) Having positive self talk instead of negative self talk
In a normal day we all have some positive thoughts and some negative thoughts but we need to take notice of what the negative thoughts are saying. Just been aware of your thought pattern gives you an insight to what is really going on inside your thoughts. So I going to let you in on a little secret, this is something I have done to help me move forward which I visit again from time to time when I'm stuck. So when I have days like this I carry a small notebook in my bag and I spend a day writing my key thoughts down. Be aware of any patterns that come up during the day as this a way to notice repeat thoughts.
4) Reach out to a family member, friend or coach
When you just feel stuck with your thoughts and money patterns this is often when our negative voice is at it's loudest. We often want to hide or not want to share what is going on because then we have to face the facts if it's out in the open.
So I challenge you to reach out to someone in this moment and say you need someone to talk to or help you with your feelings. Reach out to your partner, family member or one of your friends. As I am a coach I would recommend speaking to a coach to get to the bottom of your feelings but starting with someone you know is a good start.
5) Learn to fall in love with your money by been kind to yourself
During this process remember kindness to you is the most important. When you love your money you bring abundance to your life and create more of the same. So my final challenge for you is the find something you can do every day to help you be kind and accepting towards yourself. I have an affirmation stuck on my desk at work to remind me what I am capable of.
I would love you to start moving forward so starting today you can build a healthier relationship with your money story. Please in the comments let me know, What can you do today to start moving forward?
